Putin’s Pals screw Ukraine and the border with a single move

Putin’s Pals screw Ukraine and the border with a single move

It appears that quite a few Republicans want to eliminate US aid to Ukraine. I previously called this group The Appeasement Caucus. Just appease Putin and let him take Ukraine. You would have thought they would have learned from history that appeasement is not a good strategy. See Hitler and World War 2 for a good example.

The Betrayal: How Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republicans Abandoned America

The Betrayal: How Mitch McConnell and the Senate Republicans Abandoned America

This is a book about failure. The Senate, specifically the Republican Senators, failed us. For four years we had Donald Trump who failed at being President. And that was compounded by the failure of the Republican Senators to check his power. I thank Netgalley for the chance to read it before publication.

Accept Reality

Accept Reality

I find that I rarely agree with Senator Mitch McConnell. He recently said: “What works is when the majority accepts reality.” And I agree with that. Unfortunately the minority or at least part of it must also accept reality or we will have a badly divided government that cannot govern the country. Ideally both sides need to accept reality.

Mitch madness, debt, shutdowns and the filibuster

Mitch madness, debt, shutdowns and the filibuster

I thought keeping the government open and paying our debts was a good thing. But Mitch McConnell and his fellow Republicans seem to disagree with me. (SURPISE !)

The House Democrats seem to agree that both are good things. They put both in the same bill. Seems to me that while a government shutdown is bad, it has happened before. But failure of the United States to pay debts is unprecedented and catastrophic.

Republicans for financial disaster

Republicans for financial disaster

Not content with causing chaos in the United States by undermining democracy and enhancing the spread of COVID-19, Republicans are now seeking to spread their chaos to the international stage. Yes, their crazy actions could cause a world-wide financial disaster.

Filibuster and debt ceiling

Filibuster and debt ceiling

The filibuster in the US Senate is now being abused to prevent the Senate passing legislation needed to govern the country. In the latest example the Minority Leader announced he will not allow any Republicans to vote to raise the debt ceiling.

Who is rich? Don’t ask Mitch!

Who is rich? Don’t ask Mitch!

Earlier I had reminded Georgia voters that the run-off Georgia election has big consequences. If either David Perdue or Kelly Loeffler are returned to the Senate the Republicans have a majority. This would almost certainly mean that Mitch McConnell would have control of the Senate.

In a not-so-surprising way he reminded us why this would be a disaster. You see old Mitch seems to think folks making $75,000 a year or less are rich and they don’t deserve help getting through this pandemic. If you don’t believe this of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, read the article that starts this way,

Putin and Moscow Mitch congratulate Joe Biden on his win

Putin and Moscow Mitch congratulate Joe Biden on his win

It took a while for Vladimir Putin and Mitch McConnell to congratulate Joe Biden on winning the election. It took more than a month after normal human beings recognize the winner of the 2020 presidential election for these two to come around but they did.

Follow-up on Amy McGrath and Ditch Mitch

Follow-up on Amy McGrath and Ditch Mitch

Just following-up in my last post COVID-19 is not a joke even if Mitch McConnell thinks so. I mentioned his opponent in the senate race in Kentucky and the debate, Amy McGrath.

Unlike Senator McConnell, Amy McGrath does not find the plight of people dealing with the health and economic effects of COVID-19 to be funny. She would actually like to help people in Kentucky and around the county.

So here are a few highlights from her website. She brings much experience to her campaign and i think she will be much better for both the people of Kentucky and Americans around the county.

COVID-19 is not a joke even if Mitch McConnell thinks so

COVID-19 is not a joke even if Mitch McConnell thinks so

During their one and only debate, candidate Amy McGrath asked the Senate Majority Leader repeatedly why he refused to try to alleviate some of the economic pain ordinary Americans felt from the COVID-19 crisis. Senator Mitch McConnell just laughed.

This is the start of the CNN article on that:

Biden Rule, republican alterative fact

Biden Rule, republican alterative fact

The Biden Rule has come up again in discussing a potential Supreme Court nomination. There is no Biden Rule. Republicans just made it a rule to justify a political trick.

Mitch and the blue state bailout

Mitch and the blue state bailout

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and many of his fellow Republicans will gladly bailout the airlines but draw the line at helping the states provide help to Americans sick or otherwise dealing with the many problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

This is a bad idea for many reasons.

As the Governor Larry Hogan of Maryland and head of the National Governors Association said:

The last thing we need in the middle of an economic crisis is to have states all filing bankruptcy all across America and not able to provide services to people who desperately need them.

These seems especially unfair as much of the problem in the United States is due to the failure of President Trump to address this problem when it was smaller and more manageable.

H.R.8 – Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019

H.R.8 – Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019

This bill passed the House and has been sitting in the Senate for about 6 months now.

Seems likely it is just one of those bills that the Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (aka Moscow Mitch) just won’t let reach the floor for debate. (For an example see Why does “Moscow Mitch” oppose election security ????).
