There seems to be rapid growth of opposition to Ukraine aid among House Republicans. In my earlier post I called these folks The Appeasement Caucus so I’ll just stick with that name. I am not aware if they officially formed a caucus with that name or some other name.
As I recall, last year there were a relatively small number of House Republicans opposed to aid.
In that earlier post, I discussed the votes of 93 Republicans voting in favor of Matt Gaetz amendment to the budget bill to prohibit security assistance for Ukraine.
The very next day H.R.5692 to provides supplemental appropriations tor assistance to Ukraine was passed There were 117 Republicans opposed and 101 Republicans for the bill. Since all Democrats voted for the bill it was passed and it now in the hands of the Senate.
So I see at least 3 possibilities for the change from 93 to 117 votes in one day.
1. Quite a few Republicans just don’t like Matt Gaetz and so voted against his amendment.
2. There was some difference in what the bill and amendment would do and that changed votes.
3. Or The Appeasement Caucus is growing rapidly. Very rapidly.
