As I’ve said before, COVID-19 vaccines protect prevent severe disease and death. They are not 100% but pretty close.
I’ve heard various figures about how good that protection is. It will vary depending on the population, location, dates, etc. but COVID-19 vaccines are extremely effective at preventing severe disease and death from COVID, Quite often infected vaccinated people suffer no or mild symptoms. At times various studies have shown that 97-100% of deaths occur in unvaccinated people.
This from a recent statement by the CDC director in a White House press conference:
The good news is that if you are fully vaccinated, you are protected against severe COVID, hospitalization, and death, and are even protected against the known variants — including the Delta variant — circulating in the country.
If you are not vaccinated, you remain at risk. And our biggest concern is that we are going to continue to see preventable cases, hospitalizations, and, sadly, deaths among the unvaccinated.
A recent article examines why vaccinated people van be infected with mild illness but they can spread the virus.
Vaccinations save lives, maybe yours or someone you care about will be one of them.
