I have taken what I think is or should be a non-controversial position on the January 6 insurrection on the US Capitol. I favor a nonpartisan investigation into what happened when a pro-Trump mob attempted to storm the Capitol to prevent certification of the Presidential election and maybe in the process manage to hang the vice-president and kill a few members of Congress. In the process a number of police officers were killed or injured. Who would oppose such an investigation?
As it turned out Republicans would. So much for believing they are the party of law and order. So much for thinking they are pro-police or support our military.
The Republicans in the Senate blocked the National Bipartisan Commission on the January 6 attack by filibuster. It had been passed in the House over the objection of 175 Republicans.
Despite Republican opposition the House was able to establish a select committee to investigate the deadly January 6 attack on the US Capitol. Speaker Nancy Pelosi appointed her members fairly quickly. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy delayed for weeks,
When he finally got around to it 2 of his 5 choices were unacceptable to the Speaker.
“With respect for the integrity of the investigation, with an insistence on the truth and with concern about statements made and actions taken by these members, I must reject the recommendations of Representatives Banks and Jordan to the Select Committee,” Pelosi said in a statement.

I think the select committee is a serious probe into what happened in the attack of January 6 and there is no room for obstructionists who will just diminish the investigation. I would have preferred another route but this is the best available due to Republican opposition.
