I have often written about the Republican Party, For the past 5 years or so, it has usually been negative. Before that it was a bit mixed. The Republican party used to be highly principled and an important part of our democracy. But now they seem to oppose the very idea of democracy.

That is why I was glad to see a group of Republicans stand up for democracy and our Constitution. A Call for American Renewal specifically calls “for the Republican Party to rededicate itself to founding ideals—or else hasten the creation of an alternative.”

Our democracy works best when there are a variety of ideas. The present Republican Party presents an alternative and false reality rather than useful ideas to guide government policy. I hope this call for renewal will save the Republican Party from its current path or result in formation of a new party worthy of our country.

If some of our Republican Senators or Representatives join this effort, they may find it more compatible with their beliefs and their ability to wield power for the benefit of the country.
