I lived in Georgia for 30 years while at the CDC in Atlanta. When I moved to Atlanta in 1978, the state was pretty solidly Democratic. I remember elections where the choice was in the Democratic primary. Republicans sometimes put up no opposition in the actual election. When I retired in 2008 Republicans dominated.
I do remember the House candidate in my district being criticized by the Republican candidate for not being a good Christian. He was Jewish. I thought he was a good Representative. His Republican opponent won but later went to jail for perjury related to a money laundering scheme for a drug trafficking operation.
So I was excited to see a Democrat with a good chance of becoming a US Senator from Georgia this year. Jon Ossoff seems to be getting the best of his opponent who did so poorly in their debates that he now withdrawing from the final debate.
I think Jon Ossoff is the best candidate for Senate in Georgia. He seems more interested in protecting Georgians from COVID-19 and protecting their health insurance than his opponent. I’d also add that he is not being investigated for a crime and is not afraid to debate his opponent.
I’ll leave you with a quote from his website:
I am fighting for great health care for every American with a strong Public Option and strengthened Affordable Care Act, to defend Medicare and Social Security, for historic investment in clean energy and infrastructure, to lower taxes for working families and small businesses, to defend Roe v. Wade and the privacy of women’s health care, to enact major criminal justice reform, to get dark money out of politics and end Citizens United.
Sounds like he’d be good for Georgia and good for the United States.
