His months of magical thinking on COVID-19 is the most obvious example. This continues to cause loss of life and massive economic problems. President Trump continues to fail us in many ways.

Millions are unemployed and a hundred thousand Americans are dead. It did not have to be this bad.

A recent paper estimated that beginning social distancing just a week or two earlier would have saved most of these lives. One week would have saved over half the lives; two weeks would have saved over 80%. Since President Trump delayed this action for months, it seems reasonable to believe that the US outcome could have been much better than the cases examined in this study. Many fewer American would have died and quite possibly the economic problems may have also been reduced.

Since this COVID-19 pandemic is a world-wide problem, President Trump cannot be blamed for all the problems, just for making things much worse in the United States. Previous Presidents have dealt with potential epidemics and succeeded in averting catastrophe.

Unfortunately, President Trump is just not up to the job. He has failed us as President in many ways. And President Trump continues to fail us in addressing this pandemic.
