The Culverhouse gift has been returned. What is the best response?

Hugh Culverhouse Jr. pledged a 26.5 million dollar gift to the University of Alabama Law School. So far 21.5 million of that has been paid to the university and the Law School had been renamed in his honor Last week the university gave it back and removed his name from its law school.

The why is in dispute.

Mr. Culverhouse maintains it was in response to his press release suggesting a boycott in response to the recently passed Alabama law which highly restricted abortions. The University claims they had already decided to return the gift and the timing was just coincidental.

I think the best response would be to re-gift the money to Planned Parenthood or the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Both are fighting these restrictive abortion laws. Since Mr. Culverhouse believes the University’s actions are a response to his speaking out against the state for passing such a law, this seems appropriate.
