The full title is “Democracy in Chains: The Deep History of the Radical Right’s Stealth Plan for America“. The author is Nancy MacLean, a professor of history and public policy at Duke University. So you can be certain that the author knows her history. In addition, there are extensive notes and a bibliography.
It gave me a new appreciation of historical events and how they fit into our current political disagreements. Both sides believe they are supporting freedom but differ in the meaning for freedom and who it is for. The implications for our democracy are enormous. Spend a bit of time learning and thinking about it.
I have linked to the Amazon website as they provide a nice picture of the book. The link provides an easy way to read a variety of reviews and see what editions are available (paperback, hardback, audio, and Kindle when I looked). I got my copy at the library for free. Buy a copy from Amazon or your favorite bookseller. Or get it free from the library. Where you get it does not matter, but do get it.
I think this is an important book. I hope it is widely read.
