Should we protect the Special Counsel from President Trump? Speaker Paul Ryan doesn’t think so.
But Speaker Ryan did not think the President was serious about revoking security clearances. I would think that now that President Trump has done so, we should no longer have great faith in the Speaker’s predictions.
And so I think we should pass legislation to protect the Special Counsel. There are bills in both Houses of Congress but there has been no vote as of now.
S.1735 – Special Counsel Independence Protection Act was sponsored by Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC) with 3 democratic co-sponsors. It has been sitting in the Committee on the Judiciary since last September.
H.R.3654 – Special Counsel Independence Protection Act was sponsored by Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) with 153 democratic co-sponsors. It has been sitting in the Judiciary Committee since last year.
It is time to protect the Special Counsel.
