What is pro-life, anti-abortion, or pro-choice ?

I think I will stray from my usual political, genealogical, or book review posts tonight. Perhaps this is a bit more philosophical. I am wondering about various terms that are commonly used in political discourse. So maybe this is not so much of a departure.

Maybe the compassionate or non-compassionate view is important here.

So a group claims to be pro-life. But what do they mean by this?. Typically they mean they against abortion. But there is life beyond birth. Do they propose to support families so that children can survive childhood?

What is the response if the fetus has a terrible disease in store? Should the child be born and then suffer and die because there is no support or no cure? And what about older people with health problems?

Do we need to deal with children or adults with health problems?

What if the mother knows the child will suffer and inevitably die or maybe there are other issues. Does our one-size fits all pro-life policy force the mother to care the child to term. Is this an anti-choice policy? It certainly seems less than compassionate.

What if the mother for the reasons I talked about or maybe another reason thinks this pregnancy should not be carried to term Should should we allow the government to impose its decision which they may call pro-life? But it seems to me that really falls short of being pro-life.

It is just anti-abortion and not pro-life at all.
