Remember the protest at President Trump’s inauguration. There were hundreds of thousands in Washington and about a million when you consider all the marches in other cities, according to estimates in the Washington Post. Around 200 of those hundreds of thousands in Washington were indicted on rioting charges. Most of the rest were peaceful protesters.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) is demanding that DreamHost turn over records on website associated with those protests, its owner and the 1.3 million visitors to the site.

This seem to be an extreme example of government overreach. If there were 200 accused of criminal activity, why does the DOJ need records on over a million people, many of whom were probably not even in Washington. Those in Washington were for the most part just exercising their constitutional right to political speech.

This includes “names, addresses, telephone numbers and other identifiers, e-mail addresses, business information, the length of service (including start date), means and source of payment for services (including any credit card or bank account number), and information about any domain name registration.”

This seems to be unconstitutional government overreach and an abuse of authority.
