Is it election integrity or voter suppression? That is the question about President Trump’s Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity.
Over the past few years Republicans have championed stricter voting requirements which they claim are needed for election integrity. But Democrats claim these requirements are a form of voter suppression since they disenfranchise large numbers of voters, most of whom are members of groups more likely to vote for the Democrat.
President Trump has claimed that he would have won the popular vote against Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election if not for millions of illegal votes. Although there is no factual basis for this the President established his Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity.
And this commission is requesting voter information from states. As a result many voters are voluntarily asking to be removed from the voter registration lists. They do not trust the Trump administration with their data. As one would expect, most of these voters are not fans of President Trump.
Data from the Secretary of State in Colorado show far more Democrats than Republicans are un-registering to vote. That is thousands of voters in just one state.
Is this part of the plan to selectively suppress the Democrat vote. Or is this voluntary disenfranchisement of Democrats just a nice coincidental side-effect?
