I called this post GOP cowards. That may be true in some cases but some may just be a case of mistaken belief. Perhaps GOP stupidity or maybe GOP strangeness would have been a better title but that would have been overly long and I don’t like to bore my audience.
According to Politico only a few Republicans have expressed opinions on President Trump’s executive order temporarily barring immigrants from seven Muslim-majority nations. It could be more will eventually give an opinion, perhaps after they see the polls.
But the small sample showing courage to share opinions either opposing the order or agreeing with the administration is fairly small. If they agree or say nothing it could be because they really agree or maybe they are cowards afraid not to support the administration.
Paul Ryan is “compassionate” but seems to have a strange definition of the word as he thinks President Trump is right to block all refugees for 120 days, all immigrants from seven Muslim-majority nations for 90 days, and Syrian refugees for an indefinite period.
Senators Flake and Collins do take a stand again the President’s over-reach.
As usual Mitch McConnell does not take a stand.
There could be exceptions but they were to be based on being in the minority religion. Note how cleverly this was worded. We will give a preference to the minority in these Muslim-majority nations. We will discriminate against Muslims without actually saying so.
This story has dominated the new since Friday. Republicans have the hard choice to agree or disagree. Democrats also have a choice but it is a bit easier for them. It would be nice to hear from our elected represntatives.
President Trump’s order is immoral, unconstitutional and foolish.
