This is one of those things where I am not sure if Mary McKenzie Hogge McDougall is a relation. I’ve previously written about my McKenzie/MacKenzie search including Colin of Ellsworth and his possible brother Malcolm (my great grandfather).
This one is more of a “Hail Mary”. I stumbled upon an abstract of a death certificate for Mary McDougull at FamilySearch. (A big “thank you” to those volunteer indexers.) The thing that got me interested was that it said she was born in Nova Scotia in 1854 and her parents were Alexander and Anna McKenzie. This could match as a potential sister of Malcolm McKenzie but may just be coincidence.
Show me the records
Since I subscribe to Ancestry I decide to spend a bit of time playing around with their records to see if there was at least a chance this Mary McKenzie was linked with Malcolm’s family.
Mary McKenzie (born Nova Scotia, parents Alexander and Ann) married William Hogge in Boston and had a son Richard Alexander Hogge a few years later (1873). Unfortunately, William died a few years after that.
At this point I need to add that the death abstract showed although Mary died in Florida in 1925, she was buried in St Louis. Looking at St Louis, MO census records, I found Mary McDougal living with her son Richard A. Hogge in 1920. I also found Mary McDougall listed in a 1903 St Louis City Directory as widow of Dougall McDougall.
Obit on the way
An obituary was published in the St Louis Post Dispatch in 1925. I have requested a copy and hope that when I find that obituary, I will know a bit more about Mary McKenzie Hogge McDougall.
If anyone knows of this paper online, let me know. If anyone knows of this family, let me know.
