There seems to be a war on science. I am a scientist so my bias is to believe something is probable when most reputable scientists in the relevant field say it is true.

Sure, science gets is wrong once every now and then but not very often. Science is a self-correcting process and mistakes are normally discovered pretty quickly. I suppose a betting man would lose a lot of money by betting against something that most scientists agree with.

Many of our legislators are not scientists, but they try to be informed on disciplines which may be relevant to their jobs. But many of the Republicans appear to be willfully ignorant and stick to their ideology despite any evidence.

What are their opinions about climate change? Many will tell you that “I am not a scientist” or something similar and act as if that excuses them from having an opinion.

Now the war on science turns to cutting earth science budgets of various federal scientific agencies (see The G.O.P.’s War on Science Gets Worse and The GOP attack on climate change science takes a big step forward ). After all if we limit our knowledge of earth science, we will have less evidence for or against climate change and therefore climate change will be come a non issue.

Will “Ignorance is bliss” become the new slogan of the Republican party?
