I’ve been doing genealogy and finding things on family members for years. Over a year ago, I decided to try newspapers for genealogy.
Not exactly a new approach. I had used the occasional search of free resources. I did some research on the Library of Congress site. And the New York Times site. The Times does limit you if you don’t subscribe but we do so there was no problem.
I had found a few things but thought it would be good to expand my use of newspapers for genealogy by looking at some paid sites. So now I’m in my second year of Genealogy Bank and first year of newspapers.com. I found some interesting and useful articles with both.
So the other day I got an email from newspapers.com. By the way newspapers.com is an Ancestry product. This email another Ancestry product called IrishNewspapers.com. Another chance to use newspapers for genealogy interested me.
As with all newspapers for genealogy offers I looked closely at the newspapers and dates of what was on the site. I don’t think I will accept the offer as what is available does not match my needs. But I’ll get an eye on it all the same as what available will probably change over time.
