This is the second in a series. I liked the first and reviewed it about a year ago on this blog. I liked it so much I eagerly jumped at the chance to read and review an ARC of Brooklyn Graves: An Erica Donato Mystery by Triss Stein.
For those not familiar with the series, Erica is a Brooklyn girl. She married a firefighter from the old neighborhood, was widowed young, went back to school, discovered a life she never knew existed, and decided to pursue a Ph.D. in history. All this while raising a daughter who is now a teen.
Brooklyn Graves finds Erica still pursuing a Ph.D in history and working part-time at the Brooklyn Historical Museum. It is her duties at the museum that lead her to help Dr. Flint, a difficult and very arrogant Tiffany art expert. This leads to the discovery of important work by a formerly unknown female Tiffany studio artist and a ring stealing some beautiful and valuable Tiffany glass windows from mausoleums at the Green-Wood Cemetery.
I think the author does a great job of weaving in history of Brooklyn, the Tiffany studio, and Green-Wood with the mystery and Erica’s hectic life. Since this is the second in a series, reading the first will give you more background and understanding of Erica. I don’t think this is necessary but I think it is better.
Brooklyn Graves comes out March 4. So if you think you would like this series, let me suggest looking at more of Triss Stein’s books for your reading pleasure until then.
