Is torture too strong a word? I don’t think so. Being separated from family and being held in prison is very bad for children. The administration does not call them prisons. They are federal detention centers. They try to use words that minimize the harm they are doing.

The children are supposedly held in safe and sanitary conditions in compliance with a court order. Infants and toddlers are taken care of or not by the older children. Where are the adult care takers?

Conditions are bad but the Trump administration argues they meet the safe and sanitary requirements but the children have no toothbrushes, no soap, sleep on cold floors, and lack towels, as well as adequate food and drinking water. These luxury items do not seem necessary according to the Justice department lawyers.
