Are we being misdirected?
President Trump is well known for his alternative facts and apparent obsession with fairly minor things such as crowd size and millions of illegal voters. Perhaps this is just misdirection so we don’t pay enough attention to the important stuff.
Was misdirection the secret to at least some of his business success. While some of his “partners” were busy dreaming of their profits, was Mr. Trump was busy taking the money and setting others up for the fall?
Was this the secret to Trump University? Convince people to enroll and pay him to teach them the secret to big profits. Then when they don’t make the big profits, just convince them to enroll in a more advanced course. Eventually they run out of money but meanwhile the “University” has made a large profit.
Are we being misdirected?
The news media and much of the public worry about his apparently tenuous relationship with reality or his ethical problems. These may be real problems but maybe not the big picture. While we were being misdirected, President Trump takes steps to increase his grip on power and implement his addenda.
This is misdirection. While we complain about his alternative facts and make fun of his obsessions, he is busy doing stuff we pay less attention to. Sure, his cabinet choices and executive actions make the news. But they get less press than they would have if we were not so busy looking where we are misdirected.
Is this a higher level misdirection? Or is it part of the important stuff?
Or maybe it is nothing and President Trump is just being President Trump.
I like Charles Blow’s reference to the mistress of misdirection in his column a few days ago.
