According to AAA (quoted in a report by WUSA ) damage to cars will cost motorists 6.4 billion dollars this year.
Road departments will be busy filling in potholes now that the winter weather is behind us. But would it not be better if we could prevent potholes from forming on our roads.
Can the roads be made to prevent potholes from forming or at least make it less likely? I suspect the answer is YES.
I don’t know details but would like to hear from people who do.
It may require more money to make roads right to begin with and maintained them properly but much needless cost and miserly for motorists could be avoided. If so, the trade-off is we would pay more taxes so this could be done.
If money is the problem in preventing potholes, maybe some of us who drive will be willing to pay a bit more tax to save some of that 6.4 billion dollars.
If money is the answer and inadequate finding is the problem, do the road department have enough that a small percentage of roads could be properly maintained or re-paved this year to prevent potholes ? And then next year there will be a bit less of a problem and additional roads could be done.
And then the following year….
Well, you get the idea. It may take many years and improvement will be slow but eventually the pothole situation will improve greatly.
