Several weeks ago I had written about the marriage of Frances Greer and Horace Johnston in New York City on December 24, 1892.
I saw an abstracted record on familysearch.org and was pretty sure Frances was a daughter of Matthew Greer and Ruth Allingham of Sligo, Ireland I had not previously known about.
The mother’s name was off a bit but Allingham is often misspelled in records I see. I requested the actual certificate and it supported my belief than this was indeed the Frances I thought it was.
Interestingly, the witnesses were Charles and Etta Busteed. I had previously known that Henrietta, daughter of Matthew Greer and Ruth Allingham, had married Charles Till Busteed earlier that year. (And once again Allingham is spelled wrong).
The one thing that bothers me a little is that the certificate gives Frances Greer’s place of birth as Elizabeth, NJ and I believe she was born in Ireland, probably Sligo. However the parents’ names and the names of witnesses all support the idea that this is the Frances I think it is.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to the listing of a New Jersey birth? If I have the correct record this is probably incorrect. On the other hand, there could just be a coincidence of names and I do have the wrong record. I hope to find more and be able to increase or decrease my certainty.
But meanwhile I would like to hear your ideas about this.
